POSITION DESCRIPTION
SENIOR JOB CAPTAIN
Summary:
Responsible for coordinating and leading the architectural
drafting/production team, assigned to various architectural and/or engineering
projects, in developing documents. Assists project team leader,
(President/Senior Architect/Architect I.-IV.), with project administration from
schematic design through construction administration. May perform moderately
complex architectural assignments and may be responsible for the daily design or
technical development of a project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (It is not the
intent for this to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities
associated with this position.)
- Responsible for generation and coordination of
architectural and building systems, details, drawings and specifications;
- Generates and/or manages development of architectural
contract documents;
- Functions as detailer to the extent necessary to
complete projects on schedule and within budget;
- Assists in daily design or technical development of
projects;
- Participates in evaluation, selection, and application
of standard architectural techniques, procedures;
- Assignments have clear and specified objectives and
require the investigation of a limited number of variables;
- Receives instructions on specific assignment objectives,
complex features, and possible solutions;
- Coordinates project teams of consultants and other
architects;
- Ability to complete an entire architectural project from
concept through working drawings;
- Reviews contractor submittals for adherence to
specifications;
- Effectively utilizes computer assisted design software
programs, (extraordinary comfort with AutoCad and ADT required), as an aid in
developing architectural projects;
- Performs other duties as requested.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or
university and three plus years related experience and/or training; or
equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess current driver's license
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Senior Job Captains may be required to supervise project
team, including production staff and consultants;
- May supervise and/or coordinate the work of others who
assist in specific assignments.
Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working
Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office setting with
minimal health and safety hazards. Noise level and temperature are moderate.
Minimal lifting or climbing is required. Some travel such as, but not limited
to, other offices, work sites, seminars, and business related errands is
required; may require employee to drive, or fly, including use of company
aircraft. Requires operating office machines such as, but not limited to,
computers, copiers, phone and fax.
Communication Skills:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety
rules, operating and maintenance instructions, architectural specifications and
procedure manuals. Possesses ability to write routine reports, correspondence
and transmittals; is able to speak effectively before groups of customers or
employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability and/or Critical Thinking:
Possesses the ability to define problems, collect data,
establish facts and draw valid conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive
variety of technical instruction. Constructive thinking and alternative short
to long term solutions must be considered. Action plans must be developed and
implemented.
