POSITION DESCRIPTION
Design Director


 
Incumbent may be placed within Sr. Job Captain; Architect Intern; or Architect categories--depending on education and experience.

Aspen Street Architects is seeking a full-time skilled professional designer for our growing, mid-size firm in Angels Camp, California.
 

This Design Director is responsible for leading the design effort in the office and for ensuring consistency with firm-wide design standards. This self-motivated team player must have the utmost knowledge of and regard for quality work product. The candidate will be a motivated self-starter.
 
Responsibilities include:

  • Establishing, documenting and implementing design standards. Observing staff compliance to drafting standards and reporting results to management;

  • Staff mentoring – Exhibit a positive attitude and good people skills for providing orientation of new employees regarding design standards and assisting existing employees to boost their design skills to comply with the Company standards;

  • Overseeing design presentations;

  • Monitoring project design development;

  • Managing staff through a combination of direct authority and subject matter expertise;

  • Adhering to established budgets;

  • Contributing to business development goals;

  • Provide design and production support in all document phases;

  • Research and select finishes;

  • Day to day client interaction.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years progressive experience working on institutional design projects;

  • A minimum of a bachelors degree in Architecture from an accredited school;

  • Experience working with Windows 2000/XP, AutoCAD/Autodesk Architectural Desktop 2005, MS Office Pro, Adobe Products and basic computer applications;

  • Strong desire to learn and to teach/assist design/production staff;

  • Must possess excellent hand drawn sketch/rendering presentation skills for a variety of types of architecture (institutional, educational, municipal and residential);

  • Comprehensive knowledge of design principals, practices and aesthetics including space planning methodologies;

  • Comprehensive knowledge of contract administration;

  • Ability to clearly communicate a design concept to diverse audiences;

  • Intermediate detailing skills, familiarity with ADA requirements;

  • Intermediate AutoCAD/ADT skills in production of contract documents.
