POSITION DESCRIPTION
ARCHITECT IV

Summary:
Responsible for overall management of specific major and/or minor projects, project team/s, consultants and owners; assumes marketing and business development responsibilities; makes decisions independently on architectural problems and methods.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (It is not the intent for this to be an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities associated with this position.)

  • Has overall project management responsibility for multiple projects and/or project teams, including client contact, scheduling and budgeting;

  • Oversees architectural jobs from concept through construction administration and/or observation, close-out and post occupancy review;

  • Contributes to the global guidance and future planning of the firm;

  • Understands, and is able to prepare, funding, budgeting and scheduling documents;

  • Assumes marketing and business development activity/responsibility;

  • Supervision and guidance received relate largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters;

  • Designs complex projects and reviews design of other architects to assure specified architectural requirements;

  • Leads, encourages and motivates project teams, including consultants;

  • Understands monetary ramifications of design on client and firm;

  • Facilitates communication with regard to specific projects, and encourages communication exchange by all supervised architects;

  • May utilize computer assisted design software programs as an aid in developing architectural projects;

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Education and/or Experience:                                   
Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college of university and ten plus years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must possess current California Architect License
Must possess current driver's license
NCARB certification encouraged

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:                                              

  • Direct supervision of interns and architects may be required;

  • May supervise and/or coordinate the work of others who assist in specific assignments;

  • Actively supports intern development program requirements.

Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
Work is primarily performed in an office setting with minimal health and safety hazards.  Noise level and temperature are moderate.  Minimal lifting or climbing is required.  Some travel such as, but not limited to, other offices, work sites, seminars, and business related errands is required; may require employee to drive, or fly, including use of company aircraft. Requires operating office machines such as, but not limited to, computers, copiers, phone and fax.

Communication Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret the most complex documents, alpha and/or numeric. Utilizing verbal and/or written form, responds effectively to the most sensitive inquires and/or complaints. Using original and innovative techniques and styles, has the ability to write speeches and articles.  Utilizing various techniques, is able to effectively present complex and/or controversial information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Reasoning Ability and/or Critical Thinking:
Applies principles of logical and/or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; dealing with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Work situations are vaguely defined, often unprecedented, and unique in character.  Problems are very complex, abstract, conceptual, and long term in nature.  There is a continual requirement for strategic, innovative thought and synthesis of information as it pertains to work situations.
