Big Pine Unified School District

The Big Pine Unified School District is located in Inyo County and consists of a high school and elementary school on the same property.
After ASAi conducted a needs assessment of the elementary campus, we assisted with funding applications for a modernization and helped the District complete the first phase. ASAi designed the sitework and worked with Designed Mobile Systems Industries, Inc. (DMSI) to deliver the first modernization phase, which consisted of replacing five relocatable classrooms with one multi-room modular classroom building. The concept was to create an enclosed central access corridor to shield students from the severe winter weather. This project was completed in 2007.
We recently completed an Extreme Hardship funded project – replacing the current diesel powered boilers which had failed and could no longer heat the school. Working closely with the local Air Pollution Board, ASAi assisted the District in the selection of new propane powered boilers to ensure not only the school will be properly heated during the severe winter months, but that they are taking the required measures to provide a cleaner-air environment for the students and community by utilizing propane as opposed to diesel.
Aspen Street Architects has just been contracted by the District to design a new HVAC system and Bleachers for the High School Gymnasium.
